Amarinder confident of Cong's win in Gurdaspur bypoll
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today expressed confidence of winning the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-election by a big margin, saying his government has brought the state's economy back on track.

During a road show in Pathankot for the upcoming Gurdaspur bypoll on October 11, he said, "We will win this seat with a margin of over two lakh votes".

The Punjab chief minister was accompanied by party's candidate for the bypoll, Sunil Jakhar, All India Congress Committee general secretaries Asha Kumari and Harish Chaudhry, and Rajya Sabha member Pratap Singh Bajwa, among others.

He claimed that his government had not only implemented many of its poll promises but had also set the ball rolling by bringing the beleaguered state economy back on track.

"Be it enhancement of pensions under social welfare schemes or our promise of providing jobs, every election promise that we made is in the process of implementation," he said.

Singh claimed that his government was also working on a plan to implement its promise to provide smart phones to youth.

He also said that all steps were being taken to provide timely payment to farmers for their paddy crop in the ongoing procurement season.

Addressing the gathering, Sunil Jakhar said the rape charges against former SAD minister Sucha Singh Langaha have hurt the Sikh sentiments and demoralised SAD party workers.

The bypoll has been necessitated following the death of actor and BJP MP Vinod Khanna.
